Pilates

The Arbutus Club has a fully equipped Pilates studio complete with mats, five reformers, towers, cardio-tramp rebounders, chairs and one Cadillac. Pilates helps you improve your body’s posture, strength, flexibility, circulation and respiration. It also improves general body awareness and balance.

Pilates Assessments

If you are new to Pilates or would like a refresher, we strongly encourage you to attend a Pilates Skills Assessment prior to registering for a class.  This is a great way to get comfortable with the reformer and its parts, as well as determine if you should go straight into a class or benefit from taking a few private lessons first.

  • Wednesday, August 24 at 9:00am
Please register through Gametime to secure your assessment as we are limited to 5 people per session.

Program Policies

Make-up classes are allowed. Please communicate with your instructor if you need to miss a class. It is at the instructor’s discretion and availability to allow a make-up. All make-up classes must be made within that session's offering.

We apologize but are unable to indicate what class has availability for drop ins (make up classes) outside of what is stated in Gametime.  If a registered class has a spot open, please show up as there is a good chance you'll get into the class.  Please do not register for the class in Gametime unless you want to commit to the remainder of the session classes.

You are welcome to come to a class that shows as full in Gametime, however we will not be able to confirm you can attend until the start of class.

Masks and socks are optional in class.

For a full refund, cancellations for privates and semi-privates must be made 24 hours or more prior to the start of the session. Any cancellations made within 24 hours or less will be charged full price. Rebooking privates/semi privates is at the discretion and availability of the instructor.

To book a private lesson, please contact Daniela Tempesta, Group Fitness & Pilates Coordinator:
dtempesta@arbutusclub.com

Registration for Pilates classes opened Tuesday, May 31st at 7:00am.  We are asking members to kindly register in no more than 2 classes to allow for more members to participate in our programming.

Drop-ins are permitted based on availability and are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

See Make Up Classes for more information.

Please arrive to class on time. Participating in the warm up will help prevent injuries and unnecessary disruption to the rest of the class.  Those who are more than 10 minutes late will not be permitted to enter the studio.

Classes do not run on statutory holidays or the weekend if a holiday falls on a Friday or Monday.  Please feel free to book a private with your favourite instructor or connect with the Group Fitness & Pilates Coordinator for assistance with that.

REGULAR PROGRAMS: For a full refund of weekly Pilates programs, cancellations must be made by Monday, June 27th. Please contact the Registration Desk at registration@arbutusclub.com for all cancellation requests.  Cancellations will only be accepted with a medical note after the start of the first class, no exceptions.

Instructor Profiles

Alexandra Nicolas
Teaching since 2021

Graduate of The Pilates Center (Boulder) Intermediate Plus Teacher Training Program

Alex first came to Pilates because of low back pain induced by many years of sitting at a desk. After a few months of practice, she was feeling better and her low back pain was on its way out. A few years later, reading Joseph Pilates' Return to Life through Contrology, she was blown away by his vision: empowering people to take care of their physical and mental health in a proactive manner through breath and movement. When the pandemic hit, she took the opportunity to enroll into The Pilates Centre Teacher training program. Having recently graduated, Alex is looking to inspire and empower people to take care of their physical and mental health in a proactive manner through breath and movement.
