Programs to Suit Your Lifestyle

Here at The Arbutus Club, we are proud to present one of the most comprehensive selections of programs offered by any private club in Canada. We have activities for everyone in your family to stay active and healthy, share time together, and most importantly, have fun.

ADULTS

There are many athletic opportunities for adults at the Club from aquatics, fitness, hockey, squash, tennis, pickleball and more. We also offer activities outside of sports and athletics including bridge, knitting, mah jong, Book Club, Bookless Club and Writers Club.

AQUATICS

The Aquatic Centre is equipped with a tot pool, whirlpool, deep tank, and 25 metre 6 lane main pool. We also have a sauna, and steam room downstairs in our adult only spa area. Aquatics programming includes Red Cross Swim Kids group lessons, private lessons, Lifesaving Society advanced aquatic programs, First Aid courses, AquaFit and the Arbutus Swim Team.

BASKETBALL

Highly qualified Split Second Basketball Coaches create a fun, challenging and supportive environment to help young athletes build competence, confidence and character through basketball. The goal of the program is for players to have fun, create great habits, and master fundamental basketball skills.

CHILDMINDING

Childminding is available for children 6 weeks to 8 years of age.  We offer arts and crafts, manipulative toys, story time, and outdoor play, enabling children to learn through play and exploration. Our qualified staff use positive guidance and encourage the development of social skills and friendships among peers.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

We have licensed programs through Vancouver Coastal Health, as well as unlicensed programs. We put a lot of creativity, energy, and excitement into each recreational children's program and as well as the camps we offer at The Arbutus Club. We strive to incorporate a diverse range of learning opportunities through explorative play, crafting, group activities, and storytelling.

DANCE

The Arbutus Club Academy of Dance cultivates young dancers, from their first step in a dance studio through their pre-professional training. Students discover their individual artistic choices in a creative environment with the guidance of an internationally recognized faculty. Personalized attention encourages students to mature as dancers, grow as individuals and enrich their passion for the art form.

FITNESS

Regardless of your fitness level or goal, our renovated Fitness Centre is equipped with a wide range of high-quality equipment and machines to meet every need.  We have a team of highly educated and experienced personal trainers, group fitness and pilates instructors who will motivate and challenge you through a wide array of training sessions, group classes or private lessons.

GYMNASTICS

The primary goal of our program is for each child to enhance their physical literacy through age appropriate gymnastic activities and to build self-esteem in a safe and fun environment. Each child is supported and instructed at their own pace by our nationally certified coaches, learning body awareness and safety skills in preschool, recreational and competitive gymnastics streams.

HOCKEY

The Arbutus Club Hockey program is designed to give each player the best opportunity to develop his or her skills in the sport, at any age.  From our Minor Hockey Association, hockey development programs to our adult hockey leagues, all players are welcome regardless of skill level from beginners just learning to play, to mid-range and experienced players.

KARATE

Improve coordination, increase flexibility, develop more strength, and learn self-defense with Shito Ryu karate. Our instructors aim to develop physical, mental and spiritual well-being through training which involves basics (kihon waza), forms (kata), and fighting (kumite), to prepare for belt gradings and a year end display.

MUSIC & DRAMA

The Music & Dramatic Arts program delivers a range of services including parent and child group music classes, private lessons in writing and dramatic arts, and private lessons for a variety of musical instruments, including voice. From mastering a musical instrument to voice lessons, our students excel in the creative arts.

PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is a dynamic sport that combines badminton, tennis and ping pong. It is easy for beginners to learn and is a great sport for all ages and abilities. As one of The Arbutus Club's fastest growing sports, we offer drop-in play for all ages and skill levels, on both indoor and outdoor courts, as well as clinics and specially themed events.

SKATING

The idea for the Arbutus Club was born out of the need for more ice time in Vancouver. Our skating department is still incredibly important to club life and offers a wide range of programs for beginners learning to skate for the first time, to more technical and advanced classes in power skating and figure skating.

SQUASH

With five singles squash courts, the squash program has something for players of all ages and skill levels. Choose from a variety of junior programs from recreational to competitive. A full complement of in-house and city leagues for men and women will provide you with a fun, social and competitive environment to take your skills to the next level.

TENNIS

Tennis is a distinguishing component of the life and culture of The Arbutus Club. As a local leader in the sport, our facility boasts 4 indoor and 7 outdoor courts that allow our Members year-round play. Improve your skills in our leagues, showcase your skills in our tournaments, and make friends at our annual social events.

YOUTH

The Shaughnessy Room, equipped with games and activities as well as quiet places to relax or study, is open to youth and families seven days a week.  Youth Staff offer a wide array of programs, services, special events and camps for youth and families throughout the year.
